Tuesday 9th August 2011 – Melton Mowbray Vs North Luffenham (Burrough League)

Sponsored by Melton Building Society & L & H Exhausts)

Melton went out to bat first in this the last game of the summer league schedule with a win giving them a good chance of promotion.

Gary Potter settled quickly and hit all of Meltons 14 runs in the first 3 overs before being caught on the boundary at mid on. Bed Redwood and Jim Eccles also both found their form quickly before getting out. In form Paul Stevenson came to the crease with Steve Booth and between them they pushed the score to 96 before the loss of Booth to an unfortunate run out. Darren Smith came in and helped Stevenson (46 not out) post a respectable total of 127 from the 18 overs.

North Luffenhams reply started slowly with some tight bowling from Redwood and Freer who knocked over the first 3 wickets for just 7 runs.  D Brew came to the crease and nudged and worked his way in and formed partnerships with B.Schofield (11), S.Sewell (24). E.Hodson (14) joined Brew with 30 still needed from the last 3 overs but as hard as the batsmen tried with some effective hitting, they finished 4 runs short of their target.

Melton won by 3 runs.
