With several late arrivals stand-in Sunday Skipper Malc Brown had no option but to bat first on a bowler friendly pitch.
Gary Potter and Mike Pratt made a positive start, continued by Mark Mabbott who dispatched the ball to all parts of the grounds on his way to an aggressive 83. Despite this onslaught, wickets kept falling at the other end and when Brown departed none of the remaining batsmen reached double figures finishing disappointingly on 198 all out in the penultimate over.
Croxton’s reply got off to a poor start with none of the early batsmen able to cope against the lateral movement and variable bounce achieved by Darren Smith and Lee Jones who reduced the home side to 41-6 off 20 overs.
Dave Crossland did his best to create a challenge with a credible 50 but Potter, Mabbott and youngster Brad Young, who took his first senior wicket, ensured the fightback was short lived, dismissing Croxton for 128.
