Everards County League Division Five

MELTON TOWN FIRSTS XI v CROFT FIRST XI

Melton won by 10 wkts

Ball Sponsor: Twinlakes

MELTON moved menacingly up to third with a much improved all-round performance after the previous week’s disappointment.

Having won the toss, Melton asked Croft to bat and their tight early bowling was rewarded in the seventh over when Carl Tew bowled opener Hurd.

Tew’s bowling was excellent and he struck again before Ben Freer took Croft’s third wicket. Immediately Tew took his third scalp with Croft’s score only on 20.

Sam Collins replaced Freer in the attack and quickly found his rhythm, bowling an excellent spell which saw him take four wickets for only 11 runs. Jim Eccles replaced Tew in the attack and he, too, had success, taking two late Croft wickets.

Melton’s performance in the field was excellent with Croft’s batsmen never having the chance to become established and they were all out for a disappointingly low total of 60 from 37 overs.

The home side’s response was immediately positive with Jack Harris and Lewis Danns scoring the required runs from only 12 overs, Harris scoring 41 and Danns 21.

Croft: 60.

Bowling: K. Tew 13-6-19-3; B. Freer 7-2-13-1; S. Collins 11-3-11-4; J. Eccles 6-2-14-2.

Melton: J. Harris 41, L. Danns 21, Extras 0. Total: 62-0.
