Melton won by 8 wkts
MELTON sent a huge statement of their intentions of back-to-back promotions with a convincing win at tough opponents. After a trying first week in tough conditions the previous week, it was time for Melton to hit the ground running on Saturday. Melton captain Lee Freer won an important toss and showed no hesitation in putting Cropston in to bat. Opening bowlers Ben Redwood and Karl Tew started extremely well, building incredible pressure.
Tew made the breakthrough and ripped through the top order, backed up very well by Redwood who was unlucky to finish with figures of 1 for 37 off 17 overs. Opener Torrance continued to frustrate the bowlers and built a middle order partnership and when the ball was hammered towards the boundary it looked destined for four runs. But the ball held up in the soft outfield and Freer fired it to the bowler’s end for Redwood to complete the run out. Tew carried on bowling with control, swinging the ball both ways to finish with impressive figures of 5 for 32 from 16 overs. Cropston finished with 137-9 which looked to be well below par on a drying wicket.
Melton openers Potter and Stevenson attacked the Cropston bowling from the first ball, giving the Cropston attack no room for error. Both looked in good form, finding regular boundaries until Stevenson fell for a well-made 32. Freer came to the crease and soon found boundaries easy to come by, scoring several sixes in a well-crafted 48 before he was bowled with only nine to win. Potter remained at the crease with Harris to see the game through, looking in great form for his 42.
