PUT into bat, Countesthorpe were soon in trouble, losing two early wickets on a green, damp pitch.

Things could have been even better for Melton but for a fumbled catch, allowing Hill to go no and make 54. Cook also gave support, but once the third wicket fell, Melton got among the batting and bowled the home side out for 154.

Lee Jones and James Culy each picked up four wickets with Alan Dawson helping himself to the remainder.

Several rain delays during the Countesthorpe innings resulted in Melton having 36 overs to reach their target, but a disastrous start saw them slump to 12-3.

Malc Brown and Brian Draper put on 50 for the fourth wicket to recover the situation, while Culy batted positively until he was run out. But with the game in the balance, down cam the rain for the final time to abandon the game as a draw.
