MELTON MOWBRAY CC’s newly-formed under 13s team, sponsored by Specsavers, visited Cropston for their first game of the season in a district cup fixture.

Having lost the toss Melton were put in to bat and lost openers S. Handley and S. Thorpe with the score on 14. J. Tew and S. Davies rebuilt the innings, but found runs hard to come by against tight Cropston bowling.

Tew fell for 12, bringing C. Meredith-Wood and R. Johnson to the crease who tried to accelerate the scoring with Davies who finished on 11 not out as Melton’s innings ended on 56-4 from 18 overs.

Melton fielded well as S. Handley and J. Tew took early wickets to reduce Cropston to 6-2. K. Mackie, H. Gibbs, S. Thorpe, S Davies, D. Williams and L. Tew all bowled well and special thanks to L. Mackie for standing in at short notice, but Cropston won in the 15th over with three wickets down.

Melton play the next cup tie on Sunday at home to Soar Valley, 10am start.
