Melton batsmen fall short at Broomleys
Everards County League Division Five
BROOMLEYS SECOND XI v MELTON MOWBRAY FIRST XI
Broomleys won
Matchball sponsor: Twinlakes
MELTON suffered their second defeat in the season as they found it difficult against opponents who bolwed consistently in the right areas.
Losing the toss and put into bat, Melton started postively with Harris and Dann in confident mood. When they both went in quick succession Humphreys steadied the ship, hitting a patient 34 before Freer went early on.
A good partnership between Potter and Humphreys was formed until Humphreys was run out. Potter made amends by hitting a very well-constructed 50.
Stevenson played one of his best innings, scoring an unbeaten 46 to rescue Melton from a poor total and help them past the 200 mark to 204-8.
This was a below par target with 250 the minimum total to set, but Melton started well, with Tew again the man to remove the openers,
taking 3 for 54. Redwood again bowled well without reward.
Melton battled for the majority of the innings, but did not support the bowlers sufficently in defending a small target as Broomleys reached 204 in the 43rd over.
Melton take on Croft at the All England Ground on Saturday hoping to get a big 24-point haul.
