Melton Mowbray Vs Old Dalby

Melton won by 99 runs

On a damp and grey evening at the All England Sports Ground Visitors Old Dalby won the toss and put Melton into bat.
The opening bowlers made a good start but Melton batsmen E.Hood and H.Stokes were solid in defence and neat running between the wickets and Melton were on 222 for 0 from 4 overs. K.Mistry and J.Lambert took advantage of some wides and added some well struck fours for a 36 run partnership which was followed by a 30 run partnership between M.Wrath and C.Hull showing good defence and attacking running. The final batting pair of Captain L.Mackie and L.Purkins were patient against some more targeted bowling from the visitors to work a 25 run partnership as Melton finished on 313 for 0.
Old Dalby’s reply stuttered as H.Stokes claimed 3 wickets in his first over. Two further wickets fell to M.Wrath and C.Hull in the first four overs to peg back the score to 185. K.Mistry delivered an unplayable swinging delivery for his first wicket and followed with a wicket maiden in his second over. Old Dalby held their wickets in the final overs but further maidens from J.Lambert and C.Hull were followed by very tight overs from M.Wrath, J.Lambert and H.Stokes secured the win for the home side.
