In this local league match up where Melton visited Thorpe Arnold on another fine summer evening, game Captain E.Hood won the toss and elected to bowl.
H.Gibbs continued his wicket taking run in the first over which was supported by tight overs from L.Mackie, M.Wrath, H.Stokes and K.Mistry and restricted the hosts to 208 at the end of the 4th over. A 17 run partnership by the next batting pair pushed the score onto 225 at the end of the 8th over.
A maiden over and a single run from E.Hood’s two overs kept the run rate in check and some accurate bowling from J.Lambert was rewarded with two wickets in the final overs. Thorpe Arnold ended on a respectable and defendable score of 245.
Meltons opening pair of M.Wrath and E.Hood had a fast start and the score stood at 218 from the first 4 overs. L.Mackie and L.Purkins batted well attacking the ball and running quick singles but a couple of wickets virtually froze the scoreboard and the homeside were ahead.
K.Mistry and J.Lambert forged a carefull partnership and without overplaying any part of their stint, crafted 24 very important runs.
The final batting pair of H.Stokes and H.Gibbs were left with an important job of needing just 1 run from the final 4 overs without losing wickets. The two natural strikers of the ball controlled their game to steer Melton home with an 18 run partnership. Melton finished on 263.
Melton Final game of the League season is on 19th July against Syston at the All England Sports Ground.
