Melton 1st XI away to Illeston Abey II

Saturday 10th May 2014

Divison 4 East

A wet track and field made for a difficult encounter but Melton handled it well to take the win. An early wicket for Illeston Abey made the home side smile but not for long as a massive 172 run partnership between Gary Potter (109 not out) and Matt Worsnop (92) took the game completely away from the home side. Matt his 5 sixes and four fours in his 92 before being caught off the bowling of N.Patel. A collection of small partnerships saw Melton through to the end with Gary hit 8 fours and 2 sixes in his well crafted century as he carried his bat to the pavilion. Melton closed on 236 for 5 from 41 overs.

Melton came out to defend their total hoping the rains would stay away to complete the result. Fortunately not much time was needed as Melton demolished Illeston Abey batting line up for just 42. Tight bowling from the opening pair did most of the damage between them taking 7 wickets for 30 runs. The bowling honours went to Karl Tew taking 4 for 13 and Phil James taking 3 for 17 and 7 maidens from his 12 overs leaving Simon Brown, Matt Worsnop and Ben Redwood to tidy up the last of the Illston Abey batsmen.

Melton gained 30 points to propel themselves up the table to 2nd spot, just 6 points behind top position.
