MATCH REPORT: Melton Vs Egerton Park 9th May 2015

Saturday 9th May 2015

Melton Mowbray Vs Egerton Park

Melton won by 6 wickets

It’s been over 6 years since these two teams last played against each other in the Saturday League and the first time Egerton Park had been to play at the All England Sports Ground in that time.

Melton won the toss and elected to bowl. Egerton dug in to start against tight bowling from Karl Tew and Ben Redwood but runs weren’t easy to come by and when the first wicket fell in the 9th over there was only 16 runs on the board. Coming in at 3 Hussain played his end well but extremely tight bowling from the Melton attack prevented the visitors from gaining any momentum.

Man of the match Phil James came on to bowl in the 17th over and had an immediate impact taking a wicket with his 3rd ball. He continued taking wickets throughout his ten over spell finishing with figures 6 for 23, swing bowling for which Egerton Park had no answer. Jon Taylor (2 for 14) also bowled a tight spell and was able to remove Hussain (38) with Redwood taking a good catch over his head. In the innings there was only 1 extra from the Melton bowlers and Egerton Park finished on 89 all out from 34 overs.

Melton started their innings at a good pace of 4 runs an over with  Pete Humphreys & Gary Potter both making a good start. Potter taking advantage by hitting 5 fours and a six on his way to 47 before being caught off the bowling of Glover but the damage had already been done. Melton now just needed 20 runs to win and plenty of overs to spare.

Egerton took 4 wickets in total, Tom Glover returning good figures of 3 for 9 but it was Melton’s day as they reached the target in just 20 overs.
