Saturday 18th August 2018
Melton Win by 84 runs

Melton Mowbray 2s visited 3rd placed Huncote 2nds on Saturday looking to continue their good results in the second half of the season.

Huncote won the toss and elected to put Melton into bat.Melton lost opener James Culy early and Callum Hull and Adam Thomson dug in against the early pressure to reach 46 by the time Adam was given out LBW in the 11th over.

Huncote were thrown into disarray and opening bowler J Pears was warned and ultimately removed from the attack for bowling several beamers at the Melton batsmen.Jamie Tew and Callum Hull accelerated the scoring and when Callum was run out for 50 – his third fifty of the season, Melton were well placed for a good score.

However what followed next was a demolition of the Huncote attack as Jamie hit 8 sixes and 26 fours to reach a club record 204 not out off only 128 balls by the close. Even the late arrival of Huncote’s first team captain (G Crossley) and opening bowler could not stem the flow as he was smashed for 57 off 6 overs.

Melton eventually finished on 329 for 6 off 45 overs.

In reply, Melton began well with two quick wickets for Matt Wright. Melton dropped several catches and unfortunately Greg Richardson had to be taken to hospital with a broken finger after dropping a catch at first slip.

Melton continued to take wickets regularly and only some late hitting by G Crossley (90no) gave them any respectability in their innings as they finished on 245 for 8.

A great win for Melton as they next face Electricity Sports 4s at home.
