MATCH REPORT FOR 1st XI
Melton 1st XI Home to Langtons 2nds
Saturday 3rd May 2014 at 1.30pm at the All England Sports Ground
Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League
Melton win by 48 runs.
Surprisingly pleasant weather shone on the All England Sports Ground and the home side who started the day determined to spring back from the previous weeks disappointments. Visitors Langtons 2nds arrived at the ground confident from winning both of their opening games and must have thought all their Christmases had arrived when they romped through the first five Melton wickets for just 17 runs. Gritty batting from Man of the Match Simon Brown slowed the collapse but with frequent wickets falling at the other end things still looked grim at 62 for 6 in the 24th over. An amazing rear guard performance from Karl Tew (50) coming in at No.8 propelled Meltons score forwards but the upper hand was still with Langtons as Melton finished all out on 149 after 40 overs.
After Tea Melton took to the field to defend their total. Things started tight and Melton picked up a couple of wickets for just 28 runs but a 47 run partnership for the 3rd wicket left Langtons needing just 75 runs from 30 overs. A couple of run outs followed created by the fielding of J.Tew and Phil James but with amazing figures of 6.1overs, 2 maidens 5 wickets for just 8 runs,Simon Brown stole the show flattening the remaining Langtons batsmen as the final 6 wickets fell for just 19 runs.
