Leicestershire & Rutland League Division 4 East
Melton 1st XI vs Countesthorpe 2
Melton won by 176 runs.
Melton were keen to continue their recent good form with this impressive scoreline at the All England Sports ground last Saturday.
Batting first Melton made a solid start with a well worked fifty run partnership between Pete Humphreys (40) and Gary Potter (40). Matt Worsnop came in at No.3 and continued his fine form chalking up another half century as Melton worked the score up to 140 for 2. Further partnerships with Mark Mabbot (26) and Ben Redwood (37) kept the run rate up throughout the innings and Melton finished on 255 for 9. Pick of the Countesthorpe bowlers was K.Hawker 11 over, 4 for 52 whilst the batting honours went to Matt Worsnop, 83 including 8 fours and 6 sixes.
Countesthorpe came out to hunt down Melton’s total but came up against good bowling from Ben Redwood, Karl Tew and Simon Brown keeping the opening pair to just 2 runs per over and when the wickets started to fall the visitors had no reply. Redwood capitalised well with great figures of 12-5-17-4 which removed the top of the batting order and the next change of bowling continued to take wickets and squash the flow of runs with Gary Potter 1 for 12 and Matt Worsnop 6.3 overs 5 for 11 to complete a fine all round performance.
Melton now hold a 23 point lead at the top of Division 4 east. Meltons next game is a local game away at Thorpe Arnold on Saturday 7th June, 1.30pm start.
