Leicestershire & Rutland League Division 4 North East
Thorpe Arnold 2nds Vs Melton Mowbray 1st XI
Melton won by 6 wickets
Melton Mowbray 1sts visited town rivals Thorpe Arnold to try to continue their strong run in Division 4E this season.
Despite the heavy rain forecast that created a soft outfield, the match started on time with stand-in skipper Karl Tew winning the toss and electing to bowl first. This was an excellent choice as Ben Redwood returned his best figures of the season bowling full and straight to take 5 wickets as Thorpe Arnold slumped to 68 for 8. The ninth and tenth wickets pairs showed some resistance as the ground started to dry and Thorpe were eventually bowled out for 109 in only 35 overs.
After the break, Gary Potter and Paul Stevenson showed their intent as Gary hit two sixes in the first over as they raced to 77 off the first 13 overs. Paul rode his luck being caught on the boundary only for Barry LeCoyte in his first match for two years to step on the boundary rope. Barry LeCoyte came on to bowl and manage to extract both openers but the damage was already done. Despite Thorpe taking two more wickets, Melton managed to reach their target in 25 overs to record their 6th win in this years competition to keep their 23pt lead at the top of the table.
