Melton Win 7th game from the last 9 starts to finish the Season in 3rd Place
Melton 2nds visited bottom placed Fleckney 2nds for the final games of the season looking to extend their excellent run of 6 wins in the last 8 matches.
Melton won the toss and elected to field first on a worn and dusty pitch. Karl Tew soon had the home team in trouble with 3 wickets in an excellent opening spell. Fleckney never really got going and had slumped to 80 for 7 after Jamie Tew took three wickets in his first over, the 22ndof the innings. A mini-revival from J Rodgers (20) and U Soqsa (17) took Fleckney to 113 but they lost their last three wickets without adding to the score to post as they subsided to a sub-par total in 32 overs.
In reply, Callum Hull and James Culy were both out before the 10th over bringing Jamie Tew to the wicket. He continued his excellent form hitting a rapid 56 not out off 25 balls including 26 runs off one over as Melton raced to the total in 16 overs.
With other results going Melton’s way, they secured third place in the division, an excellent finish after being in the relegation spaces halfway through the season after a run of 6 consecutive losses.
The standout performers with the bat in the team have been Jamie Tew with 738 runs at an average of 246 including 3 hundreds (top score 204no) and 2 fifties. Trish Panchal finished with 316 runs at 35.11 with 1 hundred (top score 127) and 1 fifty and U15 player Callum Hull with 244 runs at 18.77 with 2 fifties (top score 58).
The wickets were shared around as 28 different bowlers were used over the course of the season. Jim Eccles with 5 for 40 and Trish Panchal with 5 for 23 had the best single game figures.
