Melton Mowbray 1st XI home to Barrow Town 2

Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket League Division 4 East

Melton won by . . .

On a baking hot day, Melton Mowbray faced Barrow Town 2, last years’ division winners at the All England Cricket Ground.

The visitors won the toss and surprisingly put Melton in to bat. Gary Potter (60) and captain Phil Humphries (13) started steadily, putting on 48 in the first 10 overs before Pete was out caught behind. Melton’s overseas player Matt Worsnop joined Gary and continued his fine form with a controlled innings of 85 in a partnership of 87 for the second wicket and 50 for the third wicket with Phil James (26). This platform had Melton thinking of a total close to 300 but the wheels fell off the innings as Melton lost their last 6 wickets for 16 for a total of 241 all out in the 45th over.
In reply, Barrow got off to a very slow start as Karl Tew (11 overs, 4 for 17) and Ben Redwood (12 overs, 1 for 30) kept the runs tight. As soon as Barrow tried to accelerate they lost wickets as Melton bowled and fielded strongly. Phil James came on first change and took two wickets quick wickets including one from his first ball. Scott Mooney then took two wickets in his only over, one to an excellent catch by Gary Potter and then James Culy finished the innings with a wicket from his second ball as Barrow collapsed to 88 all out.
Melton continued their fine form moving back to the top of the table as Thorpe Arnold did their town rivals a favour by taking points from Burbage.

Saturday 24th May Melton 1sts will travel to Rothley Park who have no wins from their first five matches.
