DESPITE losing the toss, a 50-run opening stand gave the home side a slow, but sold start.

Ben Freer (3 for 71) got among the wickets to leave Greenfields in trouble at 87-4, but big hitting from Olly Williams helped recover the situation, assisted by the lower order to ensure a total of 193 was set before losing the last wicket in the 44th over.

Lee Jones was the main reason a 250-plus score was not posted by returning in his second spell to finish with impressive figures of 6 for 56 from 18.1 overs.

Despite losing an early wicket, Melton set about a cautious recovery from Mike Pratt (29) and Brian Draper which allowed Jones to enter the affray and hit a quickfire 57 from 13 overs to leave the visitors in an excellent position.

Jones was the first of three quick wickets to fall as Greenfields fought back into contention, but some experienced batting from Greg Richardson (25 not out), allied to support from Steve Booth and Dave Grogan saw Melton home with three balls to spare.

Loughborough: 193.

Melton: 194-7.
