Everards County League Division Five
LOUGHBOROUGH GREENFIELDS 1ST XI v MELTON TOWN FIRST XI
Melton won by 222 runs
BATTING first, Melton started confidently with Peter Humphries and Gary Potter giving the innings a firm foundation.
After a number of excellent boundaries, Potter was bowled for 26, but Humphries started to dominate the bowling attack. His son Lewis Humphries was run out for 16, but Lee Freer joined Humphries and between them built a match-changing century partnership.
Freer was bowled for 66, but Humphries, supported particularly by Tew, went on to score an outstanding 163 as Melton finished their innings on 328-7.
Melton’s opening bowling attack of Redwood and Tew immediately caused the Loughborough batsmen early problems with Redwood the first to bag a couple of early wickets while the pitch offered help to the bowlers.
Not to be outdone, Tew began to make inroads into the Greenfields batting, and as wickets fell Melton sensed victory. Stubborn Loughborough batting was eventually overrun as Tew took six wickets.
Redwood claimed one more wicket and Freer mopped up the last remaining wickets as the match drew to a close. This was an excellent performance from a Melton team who totally dominated a relatively poor Greenfields side.
