Grantham and Melton Association Division Three
QUENIBOROUGH v MELTON TOWN
Queniborough won by 6 wkts
A CHILLY Sunday began with Melton winning the toss and electing to bat.
Queniborough’s opening bowlers, captain Vamplew and Patel, bowled a consistent line to restrict Melton to 42-4 at the drinks break with Patel deservedly taking four wickets with accurate swing bowling.
Melton showed some resistance through Richardson (13), Potter (20) and Wells (18), but that ended when Kilby picked up four wickets in his seven-over spell, assisted by Smith at the opposite end.
Harrison finished off the innings with two wickets, leaving Melton 73 all out.
Mashru (17) and Lowe (17) began the innings brightly, Lowe confidently driving before edging to the keeper. Mashru and Hills (23 not out) built a partnership of 45 before Pete Hood created the moment of the match with a superb hat-trick.
Starting with a stunning caught and bowled to Mashru, Hood’s next ball dismissed Rushby LBW and the stumping of Morris completed the feat.
But Melton’s total proved insufficient as Hills hit the winning runs after 13 overs with six wickets to spare.
