February Newsletter

There has been lots of activity behind the scenes over the winter so we thought we’d bring everyone up to speed.

The first part of the off season activity involved the Presentation Night with Ollie Freckingham as Special Guest and Jonny Mac hosting. An enjoyable night I think we’d all agree and thank you to both of them again for spending their time. The Awards details can be found here

Clubman of the Year Rupert Smallshaw with Awards Host Jonny Mac

One of the highlights of the 2013 Season was finishing top of the Burrough League and promotion again to the top Division.

Also after decades without any of our own Club developed players, Jamie Tew, Spencer Handley and Charlie Merrideth-Wood all appeared in our Senior sides and all handling themselves very well. Congratulations to them and we look forward to their inclusion again this year.

This was followed up with our Annual General Meeting on the 15th November. Officers were elected and re-elected and they are as follows:

Presidents: John Evans & Darren Bicknell
Chairman Jamie Culy; Treasurer John Redwood; Club Development Officer Peter Hood; Clubhouse Manager Rupert Smallshaw; Welfare Officer Darren Mackie; Coach Karl Tew; 1st Team Captain Pete Humphreys; 2nd Team Captain Lewis Marsh Sunday Captain Malc Brown

A new position has been created to monitor the collection of subscriptions. This has always been a disjointed affair in the past but we feel that this will help it to be completed earlier and give it a central point of contact. A responsible job and we are pleased to say Owen Lloyd has taken on the task.

Junior Cricket_____________________________________________________________________

Junior winter nets and indoor practice sessions started Saturday 25th January at Longfield. Under 10′s from 3-4pm; Under 11′s from 3-4.30pm and Under 13′s from 4-5.30pm.

A Junior disco was held at the All England Sports Ground at the start of December, a good turnout that had music throughout, games, quizzes and party food.

The Leicestershire Youth League had their AGM on Wednesday 4th December to layout plans for the forthcoming season. No major news to report at this stage.

Club Matters____________________________________________________________________

Our Welfare officer had another course to attend this winter and holds a brand new certificate. So Thank You Darren Mackie for continuing with this important role and congratulations.

A major funding exercise was carried out by the Club this year, a lot of input and effort from Pip GibbsKathy Tew and Club Chairman Jamie Culy and others.

All funding we bring is essential for us to continue growing and the latest effort was through Ragdale Hall who generously gave £500. Thanks to Denise Hood and Kathy Tew for this one and attending the Presentation Evening in December.

The other grant we received was for £3,000 from Lloyds Bank which was a massive club effort from all associated with the club to vote by text, email and visiting the bank. Over 690 votes came in. We owe a big thank you to everyone who voted and to all the Club members that kept it as the hottest topic of conversation for 2 months.

Senior League and New Divisions____________________________________________________

The Everards Leicestershire & Rutland League has a new look as it has incorporated new teams from another league. Our first team will now compete in Division 4 East and our 2nd XI will be in Division 7 East.

Our Sunday XI will continue in Division 3 of the Grantham and Melton League.
Midweek arrangements will be in the next newsletter

OTHER NEWS ____________________________________________________________________

Clubmark – We’ve been slowly working towards Clubmark standards for a few years now and in the last few weeks we’ve been able to have our first Clubmark meeting to assess our progress. We have a fair amount of form filling to do but I’ll let you know our progress on the next newsletter.

0ur 1969 team – And finally we organised an evening at the All England Sports Ground before Christmas where our Junior Members will met members of our original team of 1969, and our club players from the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s. During the evening we started filling in the gaps in our history and started to put together some memorable moments.

If you want any information about the club or would like to volunteer for any of the activities we are running please contact us on contact@meltoncricket.org
